TIME’S UP! It’s a sickness.

It really is. And I have been infected. You might want to stop reading this now lest it make you very, very ill as well.

We now have, what... ten? of the best yarn bases out there, and I can't stop working to develop more. Pretty soon y'all will suffer from choice overload and you'll be too overhwlemed to make any yarn-related decisions at all.

Right now, I have three yarns I am considering adding to the lineup. They are all so fantastic, I want to share them with other people. One of them is a plied version of our Galenas Merino in a chunky weight. Another is a heavier weight Blue Faced Leicester yarn... still working to perfect that one. And another is a mid-weight fingering merino washable sock yarn that I can't get enough of.

So, help me out. Do we have too many yarn options already? Should I see a mental health professional for my sickness and stop working on these things? What would you like to see added to the lineup (if anything)? (Either something I've already mentioned, or something else.) What would be your dream 3IG yarn?

If you can help me with these weighty questions, I will enter your response in a drawing for your choice of Curran,

Rhiannon,

or Tara

on Wexford Merino Silk. You have until 2:00pm EST Friday afternoon.

You scratch my back, I'll scratch one of yours.

I'd love to see a dk weight sock yarn. I am seriously into quick-knit, thick socks for winter. The new sport weight is nice, but I'd still love something thicker... what about a superwash BFL dk weight sock yarn? ;)

oh wait - that didn't help... that just added another choice...

um... hm... I don't use chunky yarn much, though the plied galenas sounds lovely. and I already mentioned my sock-yarn preference...

so I'd lean towards the BFL - depending on weight, though. :)

When it comes to yarn you can't have too many choices can you? I'd love something shiny (bamboo?) which is luxurious but affordable too. And something which is good for lace projects :)

I agree with Lisa that you can always gauge the saturation point in the number of yarns available by how well the yarn is moving.

For me, being in the south the light to mid-weight yarns are more attractive.

I also agree with Marka about yarn tasting:) I think as a nivice actually being able to touch the different yarns would help me know what I would prefer for my lifestyle.

I would love to see more selection too, so please keep adding. I think a plied galenas would be amazing and also a slightly thicker weight washable sock yarn. You can never have too much yarn ;).

I want more sock yarn! It's my current obsession.

It's wonderful that you value your customer feedback!

I think the variety of yarn you offer is great. Love the all the options available...so not too many. And adding washable sock yarn...oh yes!

I like choices; the more the better. But sometimes it's easy to get overwhelmed if I can't understand why I'd choose one yarn over another. So I'd appreciate some direction of "consider using this yarn for..." with each description. And swatches, too, of each yarn base. Not to give you any more work to do!

One of the first things I loved about your site was the fact that there was a nice selection of weights available. So, if I see a colorway I love I can get it in a variety of yarns to suit whatever pattern I might be thinking of. If you can manage it from a business perspective, I would say too many choices is not a bad thing. Personally, machine washable is a BIG plus. Thanks for asking!

I don't think that you have too many choices at all. Yarnies love choices. =)

But what would I like to see? Fingering weights of a merino/silk blend, or maybe an alpaca blend fingering weight? Or my favorite, a solid fingering weight BFL. So soft. They make my toes curl.

Hah, weighty questions... LOL I get it...

You probably know from my raving about it for a couple of years that I LOVE Galenas Merino so that would be my choice. I am finding more projects for chunky yarn- a baby toy in that would be so nice for a little one. I'm not big on toys, but have been dabbling a bit. I recognize that picture of the Curran on Galenas Merino.... ah, Club memories.

The washable heavier sock weight would work well with baby and kid clothes, right, so that would be a good option. Is it as soft as Springvale? That is currently my choice for socks. Oh, it's so soft ....

Too many choices for weight? Too many different colors? Never have too many options as long as your crew and you can handle it. So many different customers will support it.

Loving the solids. I had a solid from you yrs ago that was a compliment to Keane on Lindon Merino 3>, made it into shorties for Vincent Wesley, and he's growing out of them. What am I going to do?

I see a mental health professional and he says I'm okay, so you must be as well. I used to see one that didn't really say anything too positive about my yarn obsession- said *gasp*, are you ready for this?... knitting wasn't therapy. I have dropped him. Can't have that.

I'd like some cotton yarn, esp. if you continue in your practice to buy USA, environmentally conscience, animal friendly, and fair labor practices.

Hmmm....so many choices, so little knitting time!

I love socks, so I'm a bit bias in the wanting new sock bases. But Galenas is SOOOOO nice, I would say a plie version would be amazing!

Hm. I don't think there's such a thing as too many choices. I especially love the fact that I can choose the yarn I want and then choose the color I want too. That excites me to no end.

As for my dream yarn? Well, there've been so many good suggestions above, and I like them all. I will say this though, I do like the idea of cotton, bamboo and other animal-friendly yarns. (Not that I'm against wool, mind you. I have some baby alpaca that is so soft it'd make you weep.)

I love the idea of a yarn sampler too both dyed and undyed so we can see how different yarns take the same dyes. And a mid-weight sock yarn that's washable would be nice too.

Okay. I think that's it.

Cheers!

I love the idea of cotton or linen blends. I also am in the south and my wool gets a shorter season than some other, lighter cooler fabrics. Soy? Bamboo? More sock yarn? It's all good.

If you have the space and the capital, more yarn bases is a good thing. Do you have the time to custom dye all the orders you will get? That is the real question!

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJanet

Never too many choices! So many knitters/crocheters, so many different tastes!! For the sake of those who love your yarn, stay away from the mental health professionals, we do NOT want your 'sickness' cured!!

I love alpaca and merino and silk and bamboo and cotton and...oh, I guess you get the idea. I believe yarn is for petting, not just knitting! DK weight is my favorite. I wish I knew more people having babies. I have saturated my current 'market'. Of course, there are always socks.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJoanne

I would love to see another sock yarn. (surprise)

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterAlicia P

I love choices!! If you have the space and the ability to manage that many bases I say go for it!! I for one would love to see you add all three new bases but if I had to pick just one I would go for the sock yarn!!

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterTracey

I definately think that sock yarn will always be a hit no matter what! The Galenas Merino does sound lovely though but I think more sock yarn!!

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterDenise

I think the more choices the better! I like the idea of an aran BFL and another fingering weight choice or 2.

I think a plied Galenas would be nice, but I have to admit, I love the single ply and with comparable base yarns to Galenas that have multi plies... I do love the plied version, but always find myself going back to the single plies.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterHeather

I love choices. There is something for almost everyone that way. I definitely am intrigued by the mid-weight fingering merino. I do love sock yarn.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterChelsea

I say you can never, ever have too much sock yarn, especially superwash. Go with that one, absolutely.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterM Ward

I'm a huge fan of options, as every pattern has the perfect yarn, and they are all so wonderful in their own ways. I'm also a huge fan of lace-weight silk and sea cell, and any combination of the two.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered Commenterrachel

I love choices. The more, the better! I'd love to see another sock choice. Sock yarn doesn't count as stash...so I can always buy a skein here and there..without much notice :)

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterJudi

I don't think you can ever have too much yarn. Especially not if it's sock yarn :)

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterMegan

No you don't have too many yarn options already. Or at least I don't think you do. The question is whether you have space, time and resources to keep up.

See a mental health professional? No because if you need one, we all do.

I'd like to see silk in the lineup. Maybe some lace weight dyed in your beautiful colorways. Or dk weight to make a beautiful sweater out of. But silk is lovely and shiny and knits up so nicely.

July 10, 2008 | Unregistered CommenterKeri

I think the plied Chunky Galenas sounds great (I love me a good chunky weight hand dyed cowl, and there are some patterns that vein I've been wanting to try).

Also no such thing as too many sock yarn choices, so a midweight fingering would be nice too.

The one other thing that I would love to see from 3IG that wasn't offered as a new option is a dk weight yarn. Especially a washable one. Good for baby items that you want to knit up faster than a fingering weight.

I must say though. I think it's dangerous asking other yarn addicts for advice in the area, because the answer is always "there's never too much!". And what knitter doesn't love being an enabler?
