Dueling ipods

One of these iPods is not like the others.

One of these iPods has all the good music.

The others are full of things I merely tolerate or actively dislike. Can you guess which one of the above is mine?

We take turns using the docking station in the studio to choose music to listen to for an hour, which ends up being a bit schizophrenic. Yesterday morning I had a hankerin' for some good ol' fashioned classical, complete with violas and French horns. That lasted for about thirty minutes before someone came to me and said, "Umm, Sharon, would it be OK if I put on something else?" I looked at this person, who was standing before me with a nervous smile on their face. I raised an eyebrow. They laughed and said, "I'm sorry, but classical music makes me feel really anxious."

??????????????????????????????????????????????????????? (This was my internal response.)

"Sure, feel free to switch it," I said. We then listened to electronic house music for about ten minutes before I went to this person and said, "Um, would it be OK if we switched the music? This electronic stuff makes me really anxious." (Sorry, sometimes pay back is too fun to resist.)

Today's music check (so far): 35 mn Napoleon Dynamite soundtrack

30 mn (so far) Lady Gaga

More to come, I shall update you throughout the day.

For some reason I think that the GREEN one is yours.....
Just so you know, HRH FTY, you are the queen and you get to pick.....we know that your are a benevolent queen and would always allow others a chance.

ROFLOL!! That's so funny :)
And while I enjoy some classical music I have to say I am like the person who said it makes them anxious...if I listen to it very long or am just not in the mood it makes me wan to climb the walls, lol.
Then again I am not much on the electronic house/trance stuff either, lol.

I'm sure the green one is yours. It looks more 'alive' (reading between the lines in your blog I'm sure you're a lively, energetic, enthousiastic person, which makes green the most fitting color!) with this vibrant green color than the grey or black ones.
Kind greetings from the Netherlands.

I think it's the green one too...

And I love listening to classical music while I work. It's that or NPR or books on tape. I used to work in a craft studio where the other ladies insisted on playing Tom Jones and Prince. All. The. Time. Whoa.

If you and the staff are in need of pick-me-up, get-your-butt-moving kind of music, I highly recommend the Fratellis (their first album, Costello Music, is way better than the second one after they sold out to a big record label). I don't think anyone I have ever recommended this to has disliked it...hop over to iTunes and check it out

PS - I'm in no way associated with the band - I just like the album so much that I want to share it with whoever will listen - it's that good :)

mellenknits, I LOVE the Fratellis -- they're already on my iPod! :) (Thank you for the rec, I will take any others y'all may have!)

The green one is yours, without a doubt. And that last music played on shuffle was totally yours, as well. The Chicago soundtrack coupled with Gaelic Storm gives you away, I think!

I guess that the larger one is yours, although I understand why people would choose the green.

Barry White?

:P

Um ..... headphones might be good. Everyone can listen to their own thang. I love classical in the background at work, audiobooks and podcasts for knitting and cleaning fish tanks, top 20 for everything else. But I'm a big believer in headphones. Yup. That may be your collective salvation.

Soul Asylum! Yes, I was a teenager in the 90s. How did you like the new She & Him? It took about two listens for me to really love it.

Ecletic mixes are so cool. Everyone listening gives a sense of oneness, we're all in this together, too. And, of course, since variety is the spice of life, it also makes us aware that there is other music we may never have chosen for ourselves but love when we hear it. Music joins people in a special way.

*sigh* The new She&Him is so, so lovely. I think that pretty green gem is yours!

I'm going to also guess the vibrant green for you. Here are a few of my recommendations:

"Delerium" by Karma, featuring probably my absolute favorite recorded song by (guest artist) Sarah McLaughlin, "Silence" (though I adore the entire album)

Anything by Bela Fleck & the Flecktones (you've never heard a banjo played like this before!)

Anything by Richard Thompson, British Grand Master of the art of Folk Rock Music

If you are in need of a Zen Experience, give Kitaro a try

Tangerine Dream is another instrumental group I have loved - I recommend their album "Tyranny of Beauty" in particular.

Those are just a few favorites off the top of my head. Hope these are new and enjoyable to you.

I too would recommend the headphones except that they do tend to isolate everyone from each other. You are an extremely nice boss to allow your little worker bees their turn at the (shared) music selections. This world NEEDS more employers like you, and I hope your peeps are suitably grateful for their great good luck!

WHOOPS! Misspelled Sarah's last name - it's as you wrote it. I hate when that happens, which is beginning to be too often lately.

My husband's IPOD has all genres due to his profession. On Shuffle, you could have Bill Gaither followed by booty rap followed by Beethoven followed by Waylon Jennings followed by Barney followed by....

Definitely the green one......the one most in focus.
