grade one

That's what she's going into. Grade one.

I remember 1st grade. My hair was long and blonde. I sat next to a girl named Natalie. I raced through my work and always did poorly on the handwriting exercises. One day, I was so bored with having to write in cursive that I pretend-scribbled all over the whole worksheet and then tried in vain to erase all of my marks. The teacher was not impressed that I had defaced the assigned work in such a manner.

But my daughter would never do such a thing. She loves to write carefully and neatly, and every day makes herself a new book with folded paper, drawings, and a story.

Her eyesight is perfect -- she's wearing my glasses in this picture.

She does have my sense of humor, though -- silliness comes easily to her.

Did I mention she just lost her first tooth? She did.

Before:

Six years after:

Some things never change.

Oh, how adorable is she! All grown up and going off to Grade 1! We used to call it "Grade 1" when I went to school in Canada, so it's weird for me to say "First Grade". Love her lost tooth picture and she's adorable wearing your glasses! Miss you all lots!

In the end, when tons of yarn has been dyed and sent to us, and orders are shipped out the door, it is that face, with the glasses that don't fit, and the toothless grin that will be rememberd. How poignant to share family photos with us. You are awesome! Bunny

Awwww, so dear and charming. Looks like that little apple didn't fall far from the tree. Not far, at all.

I love this story. Back in the Stone Age when I was in first grade - we didn't do cursive yet - we barely had learned to print and I was the child that didn't want to nap - Excuse: the sun was I my eyes and he wouldn't let me sleep. The real reason, I wanted to chat with my neighbor. Anyway, I sat next to a girl named Valarie - I thought she had the coolest name ever - I mean who wanted to be a Diana when they could be a Valarie. Little did I realize that we were both the only Valarie and Diana in the school. Had we known what it was to actually be cool - we could have started the first cool name club. (heehee)

Anyway - your daughter is great - I love the picture with the glasses. Priceless!!! Hope she has an amazing year.

I just brought my baby to college *sniff*! I thought it was going to be easy...*sniff*....it was not. She packed herself, not asking for any help from her mom *sniff*. She happily waved goodbye when I left...*sniff*. Savor these years...they rush by all too quickly. Thankfully, a friend reminded me about about giving our children "roots & wings"...she is surely developing those "wings".

Your little girl is just so darling. I love the toothless smile! I am so pleased she has her mama's sense of humor (who got it from her mama). Thanks for sharing this special day with us.

Ohmygosh the baby picture made my uterus go pitter patter. What a snuggly baby! And what an adorable big girl you have. We started 2nd grade and kindergarten recently.
