I bought a multi-colored (fake and cheap, ha!) tree a few years ago in the rush of trying to make Christmas even happen while my husband was deployed, and I just am grateful every year that it comes on when I plug it in! My husband brought some college dorm charm by hanging up blue and white micro LED strands around the room the tree is in.
My issue is I typically have a huge tree with all white lights and colorful ornaments, huge C6 multicolored bulbs outside along the house etc etc. This year..nothing. It bothers me, like Christmas isn't actually happening, but since I moved I haven't even unpacked my shoes and yarn yet. If I haven't unpacked my yarn how can I possibly deal with putting up a tree? Next year I'm going nuts to make up for it.
In reality mine are all white - one strand twinkles - but I have to have all white - not for the elegance of it, but because there are SO MANY ornaments that colored lights detract. I use paperchains I made myself about five years ago out of scrapbook paper scraps (REALLY CUTE!) and red wooden beads for garlands. Then a thousand million ornaments that I have collected and made over the years. Some even from when my (now in her 30s) sister made for me when she was a little girl. I love my tree. This year her name is Marie-Grace.
Mine are all white, but that's mostly because that is what is on our pre-lit artifical tree. DH is wiggy about multi lights though, so it would definitely be all one color. But if I had my druthers, it would be all purple! Hmm, maybe I should get out the purple paints!

Personally I vote for all of the above, I tend to potentially overuse Christmas lights. My tree has white, colored, non-twinkling and twinkling..
Is it decorate-the-studio time again??? Will you post photos? I wish I could help!
Anything but white - I find white to be too stuffy... Christmas is about fun and whimsy - use white for something else... lol.

Must be whatever my 6 year-old demands!
