96 days of knitting
I started knitting this spiral baby blanket over the weekend, and I'm loving it.
It's hard to see how big it is at this point, because the size is being constrained by the circumference of my circular needle, but it's about 14"across.
The colorway is called Autumnal Orchard, and it was dyed by my friend Katie from Yarn Love.
I'm almost finished with the first ball of DK weight yarn, and this is perfect movie knitting -- just enough to do so it doesn't seem like the endless slog through the stockinette desert, but not so much that you can't look up periodically and see what's happening.
I'm planning on adding a small ruffle around the edge, which I'm sure will involve binding off 504,300 stitches. But I will feel very accomplished when I'm done.
I hope to finish this this week.
Stop laughing.

You CAN finish it. I just finished one with your bamboo cotton fingering in a week. And yes, there ARE about 504,300 stitches to bind off but OH! the finished product!
Is there a pattern for this out there somewhere??
It's lovely! I have to second GMuldoon, the bind-off is something to sit down and spend some time on. It can be finished, but you might have to have some cheerleaders helping you out.
I love how the yarn is pooling thus far... how much yardage do you have?
I LOVE this blanket Sharon. I have always wanted to make it, but have found the start WAY to fiddly for me. Boo. It is so happy and cheerful and girlie. Yay for little girls!
And OF COURSE you can finish it. You are awesome. :-)
Now I want to go start it again. :-D
The start is super fiddly, you're right! It took me a bunch of tries.
Its so pretty! I am also knitting an endless blanket and quickly growing afraid of the bind off (I am at ~500 sts already and still have about two skeins to go)... good luck!
So it's a blanket, meaning it lies flat? I think it would be cute as a sack-type thingie where you insert the baby. You could have one "side" of it being elliptical (short rows?) so the baby's head would rest on it when lying down. Which they tend to do a lot.
But it's a darling blanket! Is there a pattern for it somewhere? Just look up "Spiral Blanket" on Rav?
It's a thing of beauty! At the risk of sounding primordial, it never would have occurred to me to make a baby blanket in the round. Thanks for opening my eyes to the possibilities!
This is really, really pretty. Hopefully the prettiness will keep you excited about working on it. Good work!
Yep, it's a blanket that will lie flat when all is said and done! I will post the formula for you.
I showed the blanket to a friend of mine, and she wants to make one that's adjult-sized!?!? Can you imagine the bind-off on that? She'll probably do it, too - that's the crazy part!
Everytime I come back to this page to check on your tweets, (um like 3 times a day) the need for a blanket JUST like this one is there. I LOVE these colors, they are so pretty and fresh and springy and girlie. Katie doesn't have any on her etsy right now, so you are just going to have to make a colorway like it. Now I wish I had bought flory when it was there!
And BOO for circular needles that break. That happened to me once. I was not pleased.
Fantastic colourway! Looks so vibrant.... I'm with Bond and Bonny - what pattern is it?
That is a beautiful yarn and the spiral blankie will be lovely and oh, so useful
Seriously, I'm dying to know the pattern - I think I've got it all figured out, except the method of increase you're using - I hope you'll post it!
I am *in love* with this colorway and pattern! LOVE! So gorgeous!
