Things I would tell my 12 year old self
1. You will not always have to take the city bus to knitting classes.
Someday you will have your very own minivan outfitted with many, many carseats and mostly empty expensive cups of take out coffee.
2. You will not always have to knit with dusty blue cotton rope.
Someday yarn will feel wonderful, and will make you happy just to look at it.
3. Just go with your love of turquoise, teal, emerald, aqua, spruce, and all other shades of blue-green.
You can't fight this feeling anymore.
Just to clarify, that is not a picture of me when I was 12.
THIS is me when I was 12.
Sporting a teal jumpsuit that fit me for precisely one day before I outgrew it.
4. Holes should only be on purpose.
No, you can't fix it once the sweater is all done.
5. Someday yarn will be your chosen profession.
On second thought, I would not share that particular fact.
Too much fun stuff happened before The Yarnista was born.

You only get cooler as you age!
Really, love the parts of you that make you awkward. They're the parts that make you lovable later on.
Watching kids play is creepy. You CAN go play with them. Go on. Just introduce yourself.
Being smart is cool. I know it isn't where you live right now, but someday your friends will think it's cool that you know so much.
what is that heavenly shade of yarn called?
Mary Ann, that's Skipjack. :)
Do you have plans on finishing the "How it all got started" story? I went back and read everything you posted, but you left us on a TBC... and I couldn't find the next part!
PS: You have a gorgeous, adorable family, and an amazing talent!
I would tell my 12 year old self that someday adolescence will be over! Being well endowed is not all it's cracked up to be. Many of the girls that tease and bully you will grow up and get over themselves and you will survive the whole episode.
Christine, there are like 14 chapters! Did you read them all?
And thank you. :)
As a fellow native Minnesotan, I would tell my 12-year-old self that she will never find boots warmer than moon boots. :) Love the picture of your 12-year-old self. :)
I would tell my twelve-year-old self that she would survive it all, and grow up to find the true love and the simple, contented life she always hoped to. Also, love the photo of you at 12!
I would tell my twelve year old self to hang in there through the hard times, because someday you will grow up and have a wonderful family, which will include a loving husband and three amazing daughters whose talents and creativity will astound and bless you.
That the move from a liberal neighbourhood in an actual city to a small, conservative town will hurt and will be worth it.
To open the horizons of friendship up beyond the one and only BFF.
Tell your brothers you love them more often. Take the opportunity to hang out with them when you can.
Elfquest is the best. Go read it again. And don't rip up the actual first editions of the comics. You'll be sorry later.
I would tell myself that you don't HAVE to be like everyone else - decide what YOU like and go ahead with it.
One day the people who take joy in making your life miserable will themselves be considered the "not cool" kid. You don't have to take revenge yourself know that it will happen. You can be morally superior and feel sorry for them when they come to that point. Nothing is better than moral superiority!
You will discover when you are an adult that everyone thinks that the were the bottom of the totem pole when they were 12. They can't ALL be there - so maybe you aren't as bad off as you think.
Your sisters will ALWAYS be your best friends. Never forget that.
Good stuff there, Amy!
I have used the yarn cocoon which I read about in Jaqueline Fee's book "The Sweater Workshop". It works really well for me.
