Parade of Rejects
Saturday, January 17, 2009 at 10:32AM
That's not a very nice title. Perhaps I should call this series "Valuable contestants whose talents will be put to better use elsewhere."
How do you tell a yarn it's just not good enough? Do you take the job interview approach? "I'm sorry, it was a really tough decision, but we ended up offering the job to someone else." Do you take the beauty pageant approach? "Only twenty-five candidates remain. We have to narrow the field to ten. In no particular order, let's start with..." Do you take the publication route? "Thank you very much for your submission. Unfortunately, we're unable to accept your piece at this time. Please keep writing and try again later."
I don't know. I'm still trying to find a way to break it to the yarns gently. I hate to dash their hopes. Right now, this colorway is living on the lovely shelves in my studio, and not in the yarn graveyard. I don't want her to feel that I don't care, but I also don't want to give her the wrong impression.
Poor girl. She has some lovely purples, navy, chartreuse, peach, and pink. But she just isn't right for the job.
What do you say to a face like this?
She's so full of hope. But I also don't want to send her to the wolves, make her think she has a chance, and then have no one at all pick her for the knitting team.
What say you?

Pretty! WANT! :)
You forgot the ever popular, "It's not you, it's me." Poor little skein.
i love her and would give her a home right now!
fabulous colour I love her and would gladly rehome her for you. Would she enjoy a trip over the pond?
I'm a reject too. She can come live with me.
You know that thing you said about not questioning your judgment as to which yarn is salable? Maybe you should just dance around all of that and have a "rejects" department. Believe me, someone will buy it and give it a loving home!! Why should a yarn ever be rejected, unless it is full of flaws, or something?
I think she's pretty enough.
I think she's good enough. I'm all for Kathy Sue's suggestion to have a "rejects" department. Let me know when you post this lovely.
you tell her that she's going to go live at your friend's house. Then you mail her to me. She's sending me secret messages that she'd really love to be knit up into a pair of sample socks to test out my April club pattern.
What do you say to a face like that? I would love to run a rescue here for your parade of rejects. I will give them all the love and attention that they need. Promise!
In reference to your discovery on the 10th and 11th of this month, she is speaking to me. She wants me to adopted her and fly her to Southern home where it is much warmer so she can be out in the sun at the beach watching the waves break around her. She is calling to me that she wants to be a pair of Cabled Socks. She is calling to me....
I think a little more chartreuse would be great, though the color is lovely as is. Do you knit up a swatch prior to rejecting it? Just curious!
If that's a reject, would love to see the final run!
Could it be overdyed with yellow or gold? The pinks would turn orange, the purples maybe to brown?
I actually really like that one.
I love this one, she makes me happy.
