The Michael Phelps of the knitting world.

Which is obviously not me.

But I do have the singular pleasure of being the Yarnista for a team of Knitting Olympics peeps, and I'm sure they have many Michael Phelpses competing with them. Never mind that these are the Winter Olympics and that Michael Phelps is a swimmer. Pretend that I'm painting an appropriate metaphor.

This is what they chose for me to make:

sheepnuts-you-caught-me.jpg

I like it. It's subtle, with butterscotch, gray, white, and brown. It's kettle dyed so the colors are all splotchy throughout the skeins. Splotchiness equals random color distribution when knitting. The lighting in my drying room is less than ideal, and Ms. Olympics was not pleased about being photographed under such circumstances. I assured her that I would take her picture after she was made up so you could see her in her prime.

She only agreed to have her pictures posted here if you all promised -- pinky swear! -- not to judge her by what she looks like right now. Wait until the stage lights are on and the medal is around her neck.

When I first agreed to participate, I didn't know the Olympians would be so enthusiastic. One hundred and twenty five skeins later, these are being wound and labeled as we speak, and will be shipping to the Michael Phelpses of the knitting world later this week.

What shall I call Ms. Olympics on her label? She needs a name.

Is Sheepnuts not appropriate for a female yarn? :)

How about, "The Colors of My Mother's Hair"?

I can't even think of a witty name, I'm too excited about the yarn!

Ok, to me, this looks totally like campfire toasted marshmallows. :D

Holy sheepnuts! Love it!

Heh, well if Sheepnuts isn't appropriate, or Team Sheepnuts. . . Olympiad works. Or Ms. Olympics. . .

Medals? I see the gold, silver and bronze in there.

This is so so gorgeous!!! I'm so glad I bought some!!!!

I think her name should be "Let The Games Begin". I don't suppose you want to carry a colorway called Sheepnuts, but it was our inspiration!!!

Thanks so much for doing the colorway for us! I know it means a lot to everyone on the team!

I love sheepnuts, but I also love Ms. Olympics. :) It's beautiful, and I can't wait to see it in person!

Victoria

Sheepnuts! 'Cause really--no matter what it says on the label, that's what we'll be calling it.

And Sharon--you are most definitely the gold standard of yarnies, so you're certainly our Michael Phelps!

wellllllll......... "Mother's hair "is funny, but not chic at all... "Sheepnuts "is ... for an other colorway ( Sharon must create one for this name!) "Victoria" is nice... Victoria seems more blue and dark purple. Definitively, something with "victory"."Medals"good colors!

Good Luck for a name!

What about Gráinne/Granuaile/Grace O'Malley? That would be a good, strong name for an Olympian to have :)

What about "Ewe Gets a Silver"
or my first thought was "Edinburgh Sky" because of the color mix.

Looking forward to the finished product.

Oh, I'm so excited! Thanks for doing this for us! Wow, 125 skeins! I'm inspired now!
"Dara" is great - I so admire her. But "Olympic Medals" or "Medals" suits both the yarn and the event. That gets my vote.

Lovely! I think the name Olympiad is perfect, or Olympic Glory.

I thought 'Sheepnuts' was the name; isn't that what we called it when we discussed having it done!!! I totally want a label on my yarn that says, colorway: Sheepnuts.

It will be a collector's item!!!

Thanks for doing this for us. You should know by now to never underestimate how much yarn you will be asked to make for us, to paraphrase....if you make it, we will want it!! :)

Vancouver? Or Whistler? I like the idea of the three colors of the medals being used - so maybe Medalia (the latin source of medal - and very girly sounding).

I love this! I don't care what it's called. I can't wait to get my hands on it!

January 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterShelley

How about Olympiana?

January 20, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterLisa Downey

I'm not good with names but here's two....Sheepin' Around(like horsin' around) or Ram Run? They are so pretty!
