frustrated and trying to distract myself.
I am frustrated.
I have a new computer, and the computer is not cooperating with me. It's especially perplexing because this is supposed to be one of the good computers, the kind whose name rhymes with Smacintosh.
I knew there would be a learning curve with the keyboard shortcuts and the different menus, and I was prepared for that. I hired someone to come and do the data transfer from my old machine to the new one so the transition would be as seamless as possible. Instead, my new Smacintosh is misreading all of my 5000+ picture files, none of my photo editing software is locating the appropriate libraries, and Yarnista is not a happy camper right now.
So I will distract myself (and you) from the frustration by posting old, sentimental photos that are blurry and badly sized, but still so sweet that I can't help it.
This is my little Sunny Delight at age 18 months. Even then, she spent all her time scribbling and coloring. She's now rounding the corner towards six, and wakes up every morning wanting to make books, write letters, and draw pictures.
I got a water table just so I could take pictures like this one:
This is an adorable little coat I knit for Sunny Delight when she was a teeny baby. It's knit from denim yarn. Which, I learned, does not stretch. This sweet little thing fit for about a week before it was too tight to get on her. Today's lesson = do not knit baby clothes from denim yarn. No.
This is a picture of me and a group of Law students taken on the steps of the US Supreme Court in 2006. It has nothing to do with knitting, except that my students used to tease me about it. "Will you knit me a scarf?" "How about a hat?" "I saw this sweater at the mall and I really wanted it, but it was $40. Can you knit me one instead?" (No, no, and no.) These students are all now finishing college. That makes me old. Some of them still write to me. At least one of them will be a senator, I promise you that.
Apparently, I used to be emaciated. No one told me. Why did no one say, "Sharon, you're emaciated. Eat more Butterfingers!"
Ah, back when I was younger and thinner:
Mr. McBoy was such a cute two year old.
And a cute three year old.
And he's still a very very big, very cute eight year old.
I used to have a colorway called McKenna. It matched a baby blanket someone sent me.
My sister looks like a movie star like 6 hours after having her fourth child.
If you don't want to squeeze these thighs, get your blood pressure checked.
And, just for good measure, take a tip from me. Ruffled shorts only look cute on babies.
I remember buying the pink and purple yarn at the Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival. Which I did not get to go to this year. And now I'm sitting here frustrated again, only this time with a Smacintosh.

Send me an email. I might be able to have someone who can help you.. are you using aperture??? Will trade knowledge for yarn. :-)
Sorry you are frustrated :(
I hope you can get it figured out soon so that your frustration can go away and you can create beautimous yarns :D
Such adorable pics of the littles and yes your sister does look movie star beautiful! :)
(I am a tad jealous, lol)
The first Smacintosh I had crashed within a week of having it... I took it back and got a new one! Don't give up, once you get it you got it, and you will never look back! I love mine!
All those baby pictures and squeezable baby thighs! Ack! So cute!
And I am sure that the black circles under my eyes must have been photo shopped out of that picture, because I did not FEEL like a movie star!
The exact same thing happened to me when I switched to my Smac several years ago. I had my computer engineer sister on the phone for hours trying to sort it out. It turns out that Smacs aren't like PCs. They don't find files automatically. You have to tell them where to look. However, once you have sorted it out it is TOTALLY worth it. The learning curve took longer than I expected - but then I remembered that it took me at least a dozen years to learn what I know about PCs - and the Smac only took a few months. Hang in there...
I shifted from an old Mac to a new Mac in early 2009 and am still finding weird crap that doesn't work the way it's supposed to in the photo realm. Thought it lost my entire backed up photo library at one point. Peace and blessings to you and your Smacintosh troubles.
If you're still frustrated, maybe I can help a bit... Or maybe you have got the help you needed from Maria or someone else, and all is well in Yarnistaland..
It all depends on what software you're using: iPhoto? Aperture? Adobe (Photoshop/Ligthroom)?
PC just has a different way of organizing stuff. Trust me, once you got the hang of it and everything's in its rightful place, you'd be glad you've spent that much extra investment.
Second thought: you look equally good whether 'emaciated' or not, and not just everybody can pull that off! BTW, your sister looks almost exactly like you, just the coloring that's different, so that makes you a model look-alike too!
Third thought: I'm dying to see the new lookbook, and to know what you picked for the house colors!
that picture of your sister ?
won't you please do everything in your power to get it on the cover of a national magazine. Seriously. Find an agent or something. Everybody has to see this. So beautiful, the eyes mist.
no other knitting for children compares to yours. Yours are the It pieces. With the je-ne-sais-quoi. Perhaps the denim coat can be passed around from baby girl to baby girl until it either wears out or comes back to its rightful owner when she, in turn, gives birth to your grandchild.
as for the darling children, words fail me. Delight writing her book aged 18 months. Another national cover.
Cutest kids ever! And your sister is stunning....really, and regardless of how she feels about it. Amazing eyes.
We are a Smacintosh family and have been for about 15 years. Can I help? DH is learning Aperture right now....is that the problem or is it just learning the operating system in general? Yes, there is a learning curve. And yes, you will master it. Have patience.
I am currently having the opposite problem! I am trying to convert from a Mac laptop to a brand new PC laptop. Pretty yarn makes it all better!
Can you do some yarn the colour of your sister's eyes?
Awesome photos, I hope they helped you. They sure helped me start a very busy day with many smiles! I hope yours gets much better, very soon. 8-)
Have faith and hang in there, it's like learning a new language. In fact, think of it like American English and English English - they look like they do the same thing but actually they do it in different ways. After a while you'll find yourself on a PC and wonder why everything is so hard and difficult to find buried in a ridiculous folder structure.
Best shortcut on a Mac? Apple-H: hides the window you're in so fast that the person walking into the room can't even tell you were online shopping for yarn and were in fact working the whole time.
To sarah: "Best shortcut on a Mac? Apple-H: hides the window you're in so fast that the person walking into the room can't even tell you were online shopping for yarn and were in fact working the whole time."
Now HOW would you know that?! Hee!
PC person here, so all I can do is toss in moral support and agree with everyone else's responses to the awesome pics. Such a lovely clan!
you said ruffled shorts only look cute on babies, do you have a picture of an adult for us so we can compare? Just in case you were mistaken...
