New tradition

We started a new tradition today.

Most of us that work here enjoy cooking, and we frequently talk about what we made for dinner, what we ate at a restaurant, or what we saw at the food co-op that looked good.

So we decided to have a potluck lunch under the guise of, "Hey, wouldn't it be fun if..." But really, it was a cooking contest to see who could out-Potluck everyone else.

I didn't make a quiche, oh no. You can't win a contest with a "quiche."

I made an egg strata with caramelized onions, wilted spinach, crispy bacon, and a trio of cheeses.

Ms. Dancer didn't make a cucumber salad.

She made a Mediterranean melange of vine ripened grape tomatoes, English cucumbers, aged balsamic, and imported feta cheese. (DUDE. I love this salad.)

Mrs. Domesticity didn't bring bread and dip, she brought hand made wheat loaf topped with a spread of capers and Italian olives.

Boy Aaron didn't bring rice and squash, he brought a sugar pumpkin stuffed with threshed wild rice, sausage, and fresh cream.

And Ms. English Major made the most adorable cupcakes.

Bellini cupcakes, made with champagne, peaches, and candied ginger. They had a delicate crumb and a moist texture. They also happened to be gluten and dairy free, which made the fact that they were both adorable and delicious that much better.

We invited all of our spouses, and had so much fun with our potluck that we've decided to designate the second Friday of every month as Potluck Lunch Day.

Sometimes it's good to be the boss. I don't need to consult the Party Planning Committee or submit a requisition request. If we want to feast every second Friday of the month, we're going to do it.

So there.

Any good potluck dish ideas for me? I've got to start thinking about how to beat out the competition in October...

Those all looked so good! How about Panzanella? Or Spicy Grape Pasta Salad -- that might be better in the summer. Or Athenian Couscous Salad with Feta - looks like it would fit with one you had today. Or Zuppa Toscana soup in a crock pot. And Williamsburg Orange Cake for Dessert. But that has gluten. You'd better be careful or people will be asking you for recipes and Three Irish Girls might have to branch out into the food industry. LY.

I want the recipes! And I can say with certainty that I bet I am not alone in this request! Please, please, please! I want recipes for each and every dish! You see, Potluck Lunch Day can now be followed by a monthly Potluck Recipe Monday for the rest of us not lucky enough to partake of the feast! Seriously, this all looks soooo yummmy! Almost as yummy as 3IG yarn!

Either Gnocchi Mac n' Cheese, guaranteed to make a grown man cry with joy, or Cajun Sauterne Potatoes if you want something guaranteed never to have been devoured by anyone in the room. (They are sort of like scalloped potatoes with a Sauterne wine finish - sort of.) Won a contest with those. Both are tremendous for fall and would be an elegant accompaniment to say, a Lookbook.

I know how to make a killer French Onion Soup that's easy as pie. Anything dessert related either I could help you with or Jaia (regardless of my schooling she's far more creative than I am). I also know how to make a beshemel (?) sauce that can be turned into an alfredo or a cheddar cheese sauce, which of course needs my home made pasta dough. Ratatouille is always great for fall I think too and I think I have a roasted squash soup too but I can't remember how to make it from the top of my head.

You need help just ask! (PS-I jsut made pots de creme. dunno if you can say this on here but it's heaven in chocolate form. You'd think you'd died of pleasure)

Well, at the salon, we try to potluck about once a month as well, and I gotta tell you, nothing we ever make looks as good as what you have pictured here. We, um, set a much lower bar... on purpose. Hopefully without offending anyone... we call our potlucks, *white trash potluck*, filled with carbs and starches and high caloric intake.... we a usually a healthy bunch, and once a month, splurge on all the stuff we normally can't have..... So I have plenty of recipe's that involve "cheese" and "potatoes", beanie weenies, jello and pudding.... Let me know if you want something that doesn't require a Martha Stewart magazine and a dictionary.....
