TIME’S UP! It’s the most wonderful time of the year giveaway!
Monday, December 7, 2009 at 5:17AM
I love this time of year. I love everything about December: cold weather, the possibility of snow, the short days that necessitate family time in the evenings, the glowing lights, the hope of the approaching new year.
We had snow in Washington, DC over the weekend. Snow only happens a few times a year and only lasts for a few days, but children love it. They will try to go sledding and build snowmen with the paltriest of dustings.
Christmas. Hanukkah. The Winter Solstice. They're all coming soon. In that spirit, I think it's time for a good old-fashioned giveaway!
Our first prize is one of our Alaska-inspired colorways.
Prize #1: Two skeins of Glacier on Springvale DK. I love this yarn. So soft, so squishy, so versatile.
Prize #2: Another Alaska-inspired colorway, Wild Strawberries. Read more about this colorway, along with some useful organizational tips here.
We're giving away two skeins of Wild Strawberries on Wexford Merino Silk. Worsted weight goodness, that's what this is.
Prize #3: As skein of Alchemy on Glenhaven Fingering. Yes, it's in the vault. Yes, Glenhaven has cashmere. Yes, you'll want to wrap the skein around your neck immediately. Yes, it's more difficult to knit it that way.
Prize #4: Two skeins of Skye on Kells Sport. Love it. Lovelovelove.
Prize #5. New colorway. No official name yet. I'm calling it Need More Coffee Marigold for now. Dyed on the aforementioned Glenhaven Fingering that you'll want to wrap around your neck. Looks gorgeous paired with blues, purples, greens, magentas, and browns. Trust me.

More time with family. Fresh and clean cold air. And this December we have snow! :)
December is so exciting and filled with great holidays: Hanuakkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa. December holiday school parties, office parties, neighbor parties, and the best parties-knitting friends parties.
My favorite part of the holidays is seeing the faces of my friends and family as they open up their gifts and get so excited! I just love that. We are giving only handmade gifts this year. Yarn comes in handy for that!
The second best part about the holidays is forgetting that I am sick (if just for a moment). I have a chronic pain disorder that forces certain pain signals to shoot from my brain's pain center continously. It is a horrible disease that takes away your ability to be nice person when you're in pain all the time. This is the best part of December!
I'm reminded each year that there really is a Santa Clause. The magic, the mystery and the innocence. I love knowing that I still believe in Santa!!! Here is one silly thing...soy nog is in the stores and it is one of my favorites. I do not like eggnog but soy nog is delicious.
The best thing about December is children. The bright excitement in their eyes through the whole month as it gets closer to Christmas. The pure innocence and faith that they have is enough to bring a bit of the spirit of Christmas to everyone.
The best thing about December is that in CA, the colder weather FINALLY starts to kick in...which means I get to knit heavier things without being too hot...it also means I get to wear more of what I knit.
The best thing about December is how wonderfully giving people get. Yes, they should be like that year-round, but some people give extra in December around the holiday season. It warms my heart.
My favorite thing about December is to go skiing. The bright sun reflects off the snow making everything look magical.
My favorite thing about December would have to be family time. The oldest is finished with the semester in college so he's likely to spend a little more time at home, the youngest is done with school, I take some much needed vacation time and so does the hubby.
Of course, we're all usually ready for January because by then we're totally sick of each other, but that's ok too.
I love December because my birthday is on the 6th and its always fantastic! I also have several friends who I knit with and we have Secret Santa with each other and its always fun trying to guess which project being made is going to be given and who it is going to! Plus its cold enough that I can finally wear one of the many scarfs I've made over the past several years.
And finally...fireplaces! I can indulge my need to have a fire everyday! WOOT!
The best thing about December is the PARTIES! An excuse to get all dolled up, run around like crazy buying and preparing food and decorating, enjoying delicious food and drink with good company and then collapsing and taking a nice long nap when it's all over.
It looks like you are a true professional. Did ya study about the subject? haha..
December for me means remembering the past year, and getting ready to enjoy the possibilities of the new year. It's a time for reflection and celebration with my family and that's what I enjoy the most.
December is all about the lead up to the festive season with its joy of giving and loving others. Can you not smell all of the delicious baking that precedes this happy event? Can you not envision all of the preparations around the house? December is one of the months where families get to enjoy being with each other. It is also a time to remember others.
The best thing about December are the hopes for the holiday season. I have a renewed Christmas spirit because of my son. I want him to be excited and love the holidays as much as I did growing up.
I love reading cookbooks in December! It is a chance to spoil my family with something new and delicious. Like homemade cocoa after a tromp through the snow. mmmm :)
The best thing about December for me is GUMBO!!!!
The best thing about December is a fire in the fireplace, and the smell of a freshly cut Christmas tree.
I was born and raised in a very strict religion(Jehovah's Witness). All holidays were considered evil and punishable. I never celebrated anything growing up. However, now as an adult with my own kids I DO celebrate the holidays and it's sooo fun! I greatly enjoy all aspects of December and especially love sharing it with my kids! :)
Well Christmas is my first choice. I love Christmas and the whole giving and receiving of gifts, the food, the holiday spirit. But as a teacher, I really love having a long break, which begins in December....It's different every year, depending on when the holiday falls. This year we have 10 days, but we have had in the past 2 1/2 weeks....
What I prefer about December is how towns are decorated (the lights are beautiful), to make Christmas cookies (and to eat those cookies) and to decorate my house with candles.
My favorite thing about December are the scents- the smell of the fresh winter air, the evergreen decorations, cinnamon and apple cider, and baking cookies.
Oh, I hope I am no to late!!! The best thing about December for me is the snow, the cold, the darkness and lots of beautiful lights. The feeling that everything is ok and that people are trying to be better. :)
The best thing about December is Christmas - how the dark nights come alive with lights, the smell of fragrant greenery brought indoors, the chance - and excuse - to visit friends and family members we don't see nearly often enough - the bright, cheerful winter that precedes the grim and gloomy one to come. :-)
Lots of Good information in your posting, I bookmarked your blog post so I can visit again in the near future, Cheers :)
