TIME’S UP! It’s the most wonderful time of the year giveaway!
Monday, December 7, 2009 at 5:17AM
I love this time of year. I love everything about December: cold weather, the possibility of snow, the short days that necessitate family time in the evenings, the glowing lights, the hope of the approaching new year.
We had snow in Washington, DC over the weekend. Snow only happens a few times a year and only lasts for a few days, but children love it. They will try to go sledding and build snowmen with the paltriest of dustings.
Christmas. Hanukkah. The Winter Solstice. They're all coming soon. In that spirit, I think it's time for a good old-fashioned giveaway!
Our first prize is one of our Alaska-inspired colorways.
Prize #1: Two skeins of Glacier on Springvale DK. I love this yarn. So soft, so squishy, so versatile.
Prize #2: Another Alaska-inspired colorway, Wild Strawberries. Read more about this colorway, along with some useful organizational tips here.
We're giving away two skeins of Wild Strawberries on Wexford Merino Silk. Worsted weight goodness, that's what this is.
Prize #3: As skein of Alchemy on Glenhaven Fingering. Yes, it's in the vault. Yes, Glenhaven has cashmere. Yes, you'll want to wrap the skein around your neck immediately. Yes, it's more difficult to knit it that way.
Prize #4: Two skeins of Skye on Kells Sport. Love it. Lovelovelove.
Prize #5. New colorway. No official name yet. I'm calling it Need More Coffee Marigold for now. Dyed on the aforementioned Glenhaven Fingering that you'll want to wrap around your neck. Looks gorgeous paired with blues, purples, greens, magentas, and browns. Trust me.

I love Christmas Eve the best. Trying to convince the kids to sleep for Santa to come, but they are so excited they can't. Cookies. Family. Best day of the season!
My favorite thing about December is driving around at night and seeing all of the Christmas lights. It's such a dark time of year and the lights really brighten my spirit. More important, I love hearing my kids react to their favorite displays.
My favourite thing about December is all the celebration and anticipation - Christmas and the New Year. Family and friends coming and going, house filled with great people, great smells, and great food.
The best thing about December is definitely the first huge snowfall (if it didn't already happen!). The looks on my boys' faces is priceless, when they wake me up jumping up and down to go outside before breakfast! Love it... :-)
My favorite thing about December is the beauty. This includes (but not limited to): snow, lights, decorations, rosy cheeks, cookies. My other favorite thing is the cookies. :D
My favorite part of December is spending extra time with family. We share food, gifts, and love while remembering the past year.
The best thing about December is sharing it with my son. His birthday is a few days before Christmas, and this will be the first year he really has a concept of what both of those are. His birth was hard on me, and the recovery harder. Then, before his first birthday, they told us we had a 25% chance of him surviving. He did. Then just after his first birthday, we almost lost him to croup. This month he'll turn 2. He's completely healthy and is a totally normal little boy. And we'll get to do all the Christmas traditions with him this year. Baking with sprinkles and frosting and cookie cutters. Snow romps and hot chocolate with mini marshmellows. Christmas carols and wrapping presents. Cake and ice cream and birthday presents. December is a very good month.
The best part about December is of course family time! But there are other great parts too like the cold and the white lights on a beautiful Christmas tree and the joy on my children's faces. December means bulky sweaters and boots.
The best thing about December in general is all the time I get to spend with family. The best thing about *this* December so far is the early snowstorm we just got. Not only is it beautiful outside, but I can't get out of my driveway to go to work, so I get to spend the morning at home with my family :)
My husband and I are on break from school and work over Christmas, and we just soak up all the extra time with each other and our children. Plus, I get all kinds of extra knitting time since I don't have to study!
The very best thing about December is the fact that two of my children were born in this month! Over the years it has made things extra busy to have two birthdays and Christmas all in one month, but it has also made it extra special. :-)
I love december. I love the evenings when it´s cold and my girl and me are wrapped in a hand knitted blanket watching the wind in the trees mmmm
I LOVE December - winter is my favorite time in spite of being stuck in Georgia! I love snow, Rockefeller Center, hot chocolate, chestnuts, wearing warm things in beautiful colors, thoughts and memories of family, cats in witer fur coats, good friends like Sharon and all the ravelers, marshmallows, seeing almost to the back of our property because the trees are bare, except for the Magnolias and the beeches, warm fires and the small of wood smoke, all the old movies that only come out around Christmas...and oh so many more things.
Best wishes to all!
ANTICIPATION..........for the tree, the cookies, the shopping, getting all dressed up for Christmas Tea, gift wrapping, seeing family from far away, the music, Christmas Eve service with the candles! Each new day brings a new blessing!
As odd as it might sound, my very favourite thing abut December is New Year's Eve. The promise of a new year ahead, crisp cold temperatures, fireworks. My parents host a large party every year with upwards of 50 people, and we drive the 9 hours home to be with them. It's great to be with family at the very end of the year - and the start of a new one!
The best thing about December is getting my Christmas tree up and decorated. This year, I went through all the ornaments and told the stories of where they came from and how long I have had them. Many of them I have had for over 20 years! So Christmas becomes a time to be nostalgic and remember all the other Christmases that have come before and a time to pass on those memories.
the best thing about december is that it is literally a month ALL about family. my birthday is at the very end of november. my partner's birthday is december 1. our daughter's angel day is december 4. our son's birthday is december 7 (today!). all happening with advent and christmas. even though it can be busy, it also provides us with chance after chance to spend time together, enjoying each other, appreciating each other, loving each other - in a way that no other month can give us.
When will glacier be on the website for purchase?
The best thing about December is the time spent with family, particularly those we see rarely. Love positively radiates during this month. My eldest son was also born in December (on the 25th, no less), which makes Christmas extra special for us.
The best thing about December is that it's finally cold enough to break out the jammies for Molly, one of our greyhounds. She looks so cute wearing her jammies around the house, it cheers me up no matter what kind of mood I'm in. Oh, and my mom makes fudge for Christmas. That helps too!
Celebrations.
Our family celebrates the birth of two of our children, my own, my twin sisters, & Jesus in the month of December.
It's a time for both sides of the family to come together & reconnect. There is always a ton of laughter, great food, & good times.
My favorite thing about December is outdoor snowy activities.
We get all bundled up and get our ATV's fired up and go for long rides, and go sledding and trekking through the woods.
I'm a country girl, what can I say? :)
Hi! Every skein of yarn above looks so pettable and lovely! One thing I love about December is finally wearing all the snuggly woolens I've been knitting. I mean, I can wear most of my hand-knit socks almost all year round, but mittens just aren't going to work in June. Going to my coat closet and pulling out a hand-knit hat and some homemade mittens is just the best.
Baking with my son. We cheese it up by wearing matchy-matchy aprons and make a huge mess, but it is hands-down my favorite part of December. We make cookies, candies, and all kinds of treats. We usually end up with chocolate all over our clothes, in our hair, and let's not even talk about the state of the kitchen, but just thinking about it gives me the warm fuzzies.
Decorating the tree while listening Christmas carols, chatting with my family and glancing at the window to see if there is snowflakes. And discussing the menu for the Christmas eve :)
