TIME’S UP! It’s the most wonderful time of the year giveaway!

I love this time of year. I love everything about December: cold weather, the possibility of snow, the short days that necessitate family time in the evenings, the glowing lights, the hope of the approaching new year.

We had snow in Washington, DC over the weekend. Snow only happens a few times a year and only lasts for a few days, but children love it. They will try to go sledding and build snowmen with the paltriest of dustings.

Christmas. Hanukkah. The Winter Solstice. They're all coming soon. In that spirit, I think it's time for a good old-fashioned giveaway!

Our first prize is one of our Alaska-inspired colorways.

Prize #1: Two skeins of Glacier on Springvale DK. I love this yarn. So soft, so squishy, so versatile.

We're giving away two skeins of Wild Strawberries on Wexford Merino Silk. Worsted weight goodness, that's what this is.

Prize #5. New colorway. No official name yet. I'm calling it Need More Coffee Marigold for now.  Dyed on the aforementioned Glenhaven Fingering that you'll want to wrap around your neck. Looks gorgeous paired with blues, purples, greens, magentas, and browns. Trust me.

I love December when I can spend the day reading and crafting with the kids around the woodstove, and then snuggle in for bed under the down comforter in a cool bedroom. Cold nose, warm toes, and baby cuddles!

The beat thing about December is that it marks a kind of half way mark between Fall and Spring. I'm not the biggest fan of the snow and cold and getting 2 little kids bundled up to the store. But yarn and wooly goodness does help to make it at least a pretty and soft and cozy time. :)

My favourite thing about December is the snow. I grew up in a small town on an acreage and when my dad would plow the driveway there would be great big piles of snow to play on. I'd laugh to see our dainty cats mincing around the yard, shaking their paws between each step, and the dogs going crazy plowing into the snow and running around. Mostly I love the silence of snow and December. Even here in the city where I now live, the snow softens the harsh lines of buildings and quiets the loud noises of a neighbourhood.

The best thing about Dec is Christmas lights!!! I love lights! We dont have any up yet.. may not get to it..
But I drive past the downtown lights every night on my way to work)nite shift). I ooh and ahh like a little kid!

Happy Holidays!

The best thing about December is the first breath of "new snow" air when you come outside in the morning. So clean and refreshing! After that you better get moving because you can get frostbite in Iowa in less than a few minutes :D

I think my favorite things about December are spending time with my family and friends and all of the pretty lights and happy songs.

The best thing about Christmas is getting all my ornaments out and remembering the story behind each one. I LOVE Wild Strawberries, so perfect.

Ohhh... stepping out of the house in the crisp cold and smelling all the wood burning fires that people have going on in their houses... the smell of scented pine cones in the stores... the warmth of hot chocolate after a chilly outing... and the snuggle of lush wool!

the best thing about December is that i got married to my wonderful husband during it. on the Winter Solstice, in fact!

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTola

Well this contest of course! Also my (hopefully annual) yarn club subscription from my FIL! Seriously though, I think the sunlight glistening through icicles ans watching the kids catch snowflakes on their tongues, making gingerbread people, drinking mulled wine....Too many things :)

The best part about December is that there are always a few consecutive days in addition to a weekend that I can spend with my children.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterWendy

The best thing about December could be that I also got married (to Tola - what a coincidence!), and it could be that my birthday is three days later, but really, for knitters, I think that it's that they get to be snug and warm in their lovely hand-made sweaters that the "unbelievers" have been decrying as a "waster of time and energy" since September!

Maybe that should have been "smug and warm" !

So many but my favorite part about December is to sit curled up watching "Its a Wonderful Life", "A Christmas Story" and "Miracle on 34th Street"while I am working on the last of the Christmas projects.
December lets you know its time to settle in for winter.

All of the above and especially SNOW! Lots of powdery fluffy white snow. Sledding with my children. Silently gliding on skis along mountain paths, with the pure white snow, deep green pines, and the brilliant blue New Mexico sky. Knitting by the fire, watching the snow come down all around, and snuggling with my kids and kitty.

1). an excuse to make miniature versions of houses, trees, cars, trains...anything out of gingerbread

2). It's the coldest month in Louisiana, the only month where I'm actually proud (and glad) I spent all summer knitting sweaters, scarves, gloves, and hats.

3). see #1

The best thing about December is ski season (and snow, of course), followed by peppermint hot chocolate, followed by the cookies. And all of the other holiday food :)

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterAbigail

my favorite thing about December is the cold weather and snow! having grown up in Miami where winter was defined as temperatures in the 50s, living in NC now we actually get snow and weather in the teens and 20s. and watching the foliage turn colors and fall to the ground is just amazing. the colors are so gorgeous.

My son's face. That seems to be my favorite thing all year long. For December, his smile transforms his face into a wonderland all it's own when we make his holiday gift list and when he sees the holiday sections of stores, any store, and sees and speaks of presents, and visiting our family of which we'll have all of our immediate family with us this year, and when we walk, nee bounce, in the warm Florida air and he sees holiday decorations. My child was a miracle of health and liveliness given to me to hold 11 days before my 45th birthday in March of 2005. It's special to celebrate The Gift of my Life at this time of year.

The best thing about December is seeing my son get so excited about everything! Last Christmas didn't really register for him (he was 11 months old), but this year everything is Really Exciting! Lights, tree, stockings- just the decorating has him super happy. I can't wait to decorate cookies and have him open presents. I also love the fact that it snowed in Texas this December. We recently moved from NW Pennsylvania so the snow was an unexpected treat.

My favorite thing about Christmas...hmmmm. Cuddling up in front of the Christmas tree with a fire going and some hot chocolate, listening to Christmas music and watching the snow fall.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterKatie

I love the extra time spent with my children, baking, making gifts, wrapping gifts, getting the tree together, shoppping together, simply the togetherness of it all. :)

The best thing about December is the headlong rush from Thanksgiving to the New Year. Therein are composed not only the "usual" holidays, but also my birthday and that of several other friends. Not five days goes by that I'm not wishing someone in a far-off place a lovely birthday and getting to speak with friends I don't get to talk to often enough.

December is also a quiet month in my heart. Every night after the tree goes up, I spend a few moments in my silent house (I'm the night owl of the bunch) looking at the lights and reflecting. Sometimes it's good (I love my family, my life is good) and sometimes it's wistful (why didn't I get that adorable, complimentary man's phone number the other day? WHY?!?) but it always serves to put me at peace.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterTikabelle

December is my most favorite month...weather gets a nice bite to it which allows me to break out my sweaters. Just the possibility of snow makes me smile.

Along with my Christmas music, the fire and twinkling lights I can't think of a more peaceful time spent with my family & friends.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered Commentercindi

My favorite thing aside from the holidays is that both our dating anniversary and my dh's birthday are in December. While it's not in December, but 2 days into the next year, I'm also reminded of when I was still blissfully pregnant with my son, not having a clue he would come as early as he did. Now that he's almost 6, December is about spending time with him, and making new traditions as a family. That's my favorite part!

(And how could I not enter the contest, based both on my answer above and the fact that I live in Alaska? =))
