TIME’S UP! It’s the most wonderful time of the year giveaway!

I love this time of year. I love everything about December: cold weather, the possibility of snow, the short days that necessitate family time in the evenings, the glowing lights, the hope of the approaching new year.

We had snow in Washington, DC over the weekend. Snow only happens a few times a year and only lasts for a few days, but children love it. They will try to go sledding and build snowmen with the paltriest of dustings.

Christmas. Hanukkah. The Winter Solstice. They're all coming soon. In that spirit, I think it's time for a good old-fashioned giveaway!

Our first prize is one of our Alaska-inspired colorways.

Prize #1: Two skeins of Glacier on Springvale DK. I love this yarn. So soft, so squishy, so versatile.

We're giving away two skeins of Wild Strawberries on Wexford Merino Silk. Worsted weight goodness, that's what this is.

Prize #5. New colorway. No official name yet. I'm calling it Need More Coffee Marigold for now.  Dyed on the aforementioned Glenhaven Fingering that you'll want to wrap around your neck. Looks gorgeous paired with blues, purples, greens, magentas, and browns. Trust me.

Conan, what is best about December?

To crush the candy canes, see them sprinkled in hot cocoa, and to hear the clinking of spoons in the mugs.

My favorite thing about December is the first time that it gets cold enough that my dog wants to get under the blanket and cuddle against my chest while I'm knitting :)

The best thing about December is celebrating my daughter's birthday. She'll be 5 on Friday, and I love seeing her face when we bring out the cake and as she opens thoughtful gifts from teh family. Amazing fun.

Normally I would say the best thing about December is being with family and celebrating the holidays. But this year the best thing about December is the new cat who showed up on our doorstep in the cold and rain on December 1st. We've decided to keep him and his name is Christmas! What a wonderful gift. He's the sweetest cat ever!

The best thing about December is that it finally starts to be cold daily. I love cold, crisp air and being able to breathe again after all the leaves are gone (my allergies are crazy! :P). I love visiting my best friend and her family for Christmas - all of my christmases have been with her, and I'm looking forward to going again this year, this time with my fiance, who hasn't yet met them.

So many folks have so many wonderful things to say about December. I like the fact that I get a nice long holiday between Christmas and New Year's. But my favorite is the fact that the days start getting longer again and i can come out of mourning for the sun. Pagan rituals aside, I love those yarns as well. So this December is going to make a few folks feel really special!

My favorite thing(s) about December:
1. Holiday music.
2. Lights on the tree
3. Remembering each special ornament and decoration as I remove it from it's packing. Each one is it's own special gift.
4. Smells of Mom's cookies and remembering the fun times we all had decorating them when we were kids.
5. Reconnecting with old friends and distant family.
6. Everyone is just a little bit nicer at this time of year.
7. Anticipation of a new year and all the possibilities that bring.
8. Reviewing the past year and taking stock of all the things I have to be grateful for.
9. Decorated houses
10. My favorite holidy movies with a bowl of popcorn and some hot chocolate.

I love knowing I will see all the people I love so much in my life during the holidays! I also love knitting by the fireplace with the Christmas tree and my family near by.

What is the best thing about December? I love the cold, the snow, the Christmas lights everywhere. The sounds of Christmas music, the smells of baking cookies that I only make in December. Pulling out all of our decorations, and remembering all the years I've used them. The way my sons still smile at the way the house looks when I'm done. Traditions, memories, Jesus.

For the past few years the best part of December has been my children's excitement in the season. I do love getting the Christmas tree and finding just the right gift for someone, but sharing all that with my boys and watching their newfound joy in it all is very special.

Having time off between Christmas and New Year's Day is the best thing about December for me. We get to spend time with family, get away from the computers, snuggle under blankets and have fun with the same Holiday traditions we've been following since childhood.

My favorite think about December is all the holiday lights. I love the way they sparkle in the night and reflect off of the new fallen snow. I always enjoy just driving around and looking at everybody's lights during the month of December. They are just so beautiful.

The best thing about december is the time I can spend with my friends and family. Hands down!

When I was little the best thing about December was Christmas, and presents and waiting for Santa. Now that I am older, I realize the best thing about Christmas isn't anything material - its love, birth, growth, and togetherness. And now I am off to put up the tree and menorah and start working on my daughter's birthday invites lol.

There are so many things that I love about December--the food, the traditions, the time spent with family, the first real snowfall, the long, quiet nights, the warmth of the fireplace, the sharpness of the cold air--the list is nearly endless. But what I think I love most is winter break, which gives me the time to savor all of these things.

December: Cooler days with sun still streaming through the trees. Frosty walks by the Bay with the dogs. Handel's Messiah, Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols.

Decorations through lighted windows. Friends Invited to decorate the Solstice tree, sipping brandy laced eggnog. Meeting friends for afternoon tea at a swank hotel after shopping among the madding crowds.

Digging out my mother's favorite British Xmas recipes, adding my own, gathered over the years Making the Xmas puddings, Xmas cake, Mincement pies, Trifle, Cranberriy Panettone, etc., etc.

German Apple Pancake and bacon for holiday breakfasts.

The feeling of closeness and comfort.

December in New Zealand means summer!! Family get togethers with barbeques, lazing around in the sun with a glass of bubbly (or in the case of the men, beer!), a trip to the beach, walks in the park, longer daylight hours so you can run around for ages after dinner before it gets dark and its time to come inside. And a six week break from school for the kids, so they're allowed to stay up for ages after dinner, and don't have to go to bed early because there's school tomorrow. Life, love, fun, beautiful New Zealand :-)

My favorite thing about December is celebrating Christmas with family and friends---also, remembering special memories about family and friends that are no longer with us. So many good memories~

December for me usually means, love, and family. This December for me is a little bit bittersweet. My husband is stationed overseas, and won't be here, so This year i am learning to cherish what you have and love it even if its forever away from you.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterLindsay

The thing I love the most about December is that it's the time of the solstice. It's not just the end of the year, but also the beginning, when the daylight begins to last a bit longer each day. A corollary best thing about december is watching the sunrise reflected in the snow on icy, clear mornings.
