TIME’S UP! It’s the most wonderful time of the year giveaway!

I love this time of year. I love everything about December: cold weather, the possibility of snow, the short days that necessitate family time in the evenings, the glowing lights, the hope of the approaching new year.

We had snow in Washington, DC over the weekend. Snow only happens a few times a year and only lasts for a few days, but children love it. They will try to go sledding and build snowmen with the paltriest of dustings.

Christmas. Hanukkah. The Winter Solstice. They're all coming soon. In that spirit, I think it's time for a good old-fashioned giveaway!

Our first prize is one of our Alaska-inspired colorways.

Prize #1: Two skeins of Glacier on Springvale DK. I love this yarn. So soft, so squishy, so versatile.

We're giving away two skeins of Wild Strawberries on Wexford Merino Silk. Worsted weight goodness, that's what this is.

Prize #3: As skein of Alchemy on Glenhaven Fingering.  Yes, it's in the vault. Yes, Glenhaven has cashmere. Yes, you'll want to wrap the skein around your neck immediately. Yes, it's more difficult to knit it that way.

Prize #5. New colorway. No official name yet. I'm calling it Need More Coffee Marigold for now.  Dyed on the aforementioned Glenhaven Fingering that you'll want to wrap around your neck. Looks gorgeous paired with blues, purples, greens, magentas, and browns. Trust me.

December means it's the end of the semester and I have two weeks off!

The time I spend with my family ranks highest on my list. There are so many things to do together, so much fun to be had, and there is nothing more special than Christmas morning through the eyes of my children.

My favorite thing about December is the crisp weather and the beautiful, low light. Everything is so beautiful this month, if you can put on enough wool and get out in the cold to enjoy it. Preferably with some snow and good friends to walk with you.

Putting up the Christmas tree while listening to John Denver and the Muppets Christmas album!

The best thing about Dec. for me is family and knitting. I love hanging out with my girls, sitting by the woodstove and knitting something for someone close to me, all usally while watching Christmas movies ;)

There are so many great things about December, the holidays, my family spending time together, my birthday, the cold weather, snow, the crisp feel to air. Decorating out Christmas Tree, snow! We had snow here this weekend I love the snow, staying inside with hot chocolate, knitting and having that content feeling. Christmas music, my mom used to play the Carpenters, and Neil Diamond Christmas music and now that is all I want to listen to in December. Chrstmas Eve, my family works together in a homeless shelter near our home, Christmas Day we relax at home, and play games, and eat, and play more games. My birthday is in December, so it also reminds me of birthday cake, a mint chocolate birthday cake my mom makes every year. :) I think December is the best month. I think December is the best thing about December. It is a month that means time spent with my family.

The best thing about December is the feeling you get from the season. With the chill in the air, the lights everywhere, baking cookies, the music and then people-even with the hectic shopping and running around, there is a sense of happiness, a feeling of goodness that's more than any other time of year. I love this season!

My favorite part of December is being able to cook heavier, more filling meals because the weather is colder. I love to make stews, soups, and breads to warm up the house while they cook.

The best thing about December, this year and every year, is anticipation. Anticipation (Advent) of Christmas, and this year, anticipation of the arrival of our third daughter in late December or early January!

Though anticipation can be frustrating, there's something about the anticipation that happens in December that fills my house with hope, excitement, and promise!

I've been reading this blog for quite awhile and love your unique writing style. :)

My favorite thing about December is spending time with my family. Whether it's decorating the tree, shopping, making sugar cookies, or sitting down for a big meal and to open presents, I love being able to spend time with them.

My favorite thing about December is really two things. I love to see my kids grow more excited each year when we unpack the Christmas decorations, and open the advent boxes. My other favorite thing about December is how my house smells like a pine tree all month long. I just love that smell!!

My favorite thing about December is the day after Christmas. The family is relaxed, the rushing is over with. Everyone is in a good mood and there are no more goals or expectations for a few days. The best conversations happen during that time.

The best thing is the little break I get between the madness of buyback and the next madness of rush.

A little time with no students around! Oh, and Christmas!

The best part about December is bringing out all the Christmas ornaments and the memories they hold--especially the handmade ones from our kids. This year, the best part is having our first granddaughter around to remind us what matters most: family!

My favorite thing about December is wrapping the knitted items I've worked on throughout the year in beautiful paper and giving them to friends and family. It's great to be able to (admire my work,) wrap them up and give them to the person for whom they're intended. I love to imagine them being kept warm by something I made!

I was going to say the best thing is seeing your loved ones finally wearing all the handknits you made for Christmas. But let's be honest, it's the food. I love those huge home-cooked-by-Mom meals.

The best thing about December? Everything about December is wonderful! I love the giving spirit, I love the snow and the cold weather, I love snuggling up in front of a fire with my sweetie, hot chocolate, and of course lots of knitting!

I absolutely love gifting! I love finding the PERFECT gift for someone. Something they never asked for or expected but is just perfect. I try hard but it doesn't happen for every person every year, but when it does it's just thrilling. And I love making things for my family.

A snowy Christmas - brings up memories when i was a child and how much fun I had anticipating Santa Claus and my brother and I getting up in the middle of the night to open our stockings. And of course all the friends and family that would stop by throughout the season.

December 7, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterMichelle

December means both my girls are home from college for an extended period! Because the weather here is cold we can stay inside to knit and watch movies together.

The best thing about December is the feeling of completing a cycle. I love knowing that I've finished one circle of time, and a new one is about to begin.

The school year is half way through, and I've taken the freshmen from raw, easily intimidated, giggling children to the end of their first semester and a new level of maturity. The end of the calender year is approaching, and it's time to take stock in our lives this past year. The final season of the year is beginning--we've experienced the gentle touch pf the warm spring rains, the pounding heat of summer drought, the blustery fall winds whipping leaves from the trees, and now is the season for being blanketed in a white wonderland.

In December, I want to bring out my loom, and weave color across the palette of the warp strings. In December, I enjoy spinning just the right yarn to create the perfect gift for a special person. And in December, I get to warm my hands inside the soft yarn I am knitting into the coziest of scarves.

The best thing, for us, is that my husband actually gets a few days (in a row) off work to spend with us. We don't see him much with his work schedule so a few days all together is so nice. Also, it's finally cold enough to sit and knit or snuggle and enjoy the warmth of being together.

What is the best thing about December?
I love the most people take the time to stop thinking about their needs and their routines: work, what's for dinner, what chores need to be attended, etc. Instead, our mindsets tends to shift to those we love. We get the chance to show them that we love and value them.
Thinking of your children's needs and wishes leads you to marvel at how they have grown and how their interests have change in the course of one year. It make you stop and treasure the season as childhood moves so swiftly.
When the hubbie hands you a little something and says you said you like this a while back. AND you know you're loved.

The best thing about December is to see it through a child's eyes. This is the first Christmas my son is really noticing the tree and ornaments and he just loves it. Seeing his excitement makes my husband and I even more thrilled for the holiday and our family time together.

The best thing about December is the light in my daughter's eyes. She's 3 this year and everything is just.so.magical for her. We had just a small dusting of snow up here in CT over the weekend, and I thought her heart might just burst--- "it's a little bit of Christmas, Mama!!!!" 'Course, as soon as she said that my heart was bursting.

What's best of all, is how it's *not* about the presents for her. We're doing an Advent Calendar full of special activities and projects we can do together and celebrating the lesser celebrated holidays of the season... St. Nicholas Day, Santa Lucia Day and Epiphany.
When I asked her yesterday what she wanted Santa to bring her, she said "oh, I don't know, maybe a ball or something." I don't know how many years this will last for her... the focus being on the experience and not the getting... but I hope for sometime yet!
